English 11
Instructor: Ms. Alisa Beal
English 11 is a chronological survey of American literature.á Students gain an understanding that literature reflects the historical developments and philosophies of various periods.á The English 11 ELA/literacy standards highlight the growing complexity of texts students must read to be ready for the demands of college, career, and life.á The standards include certain critical types of content for all students including classic American myths and stories, foundational U.S. documents, and seminal works of American literature.á English 11 Common Core emphasizes using evidence from texts to present careful analyses, well-defended claims and clear information.á Students must be immersed in information about the world around them if they are to develop the strong general knowledge and vocabulary they need to become successful readers.á It is vital for students to have extensive opportunities to build knowledge through texts so they can learn independently.
